Prevention of Illegal Mining

TASK FORCES

      In order to prevent the menace of illegal mining and transportation of minerals which has wide social, economic and environmental impacts, Government of India have instructed all the State Governments to create Task Forces exclusively for the purpose and accordingly, the State Government constituted task Forces at different levels .

STATE LEVEL

      The State Level Task Force for prevention of illegal mining and monitoring the mining activities vide G.O.Ms.No.33 Industries (MMA1) Department dated 15.3.2006 has been constituted with the Secretary to Government, Industries Department as Chairman and Director of Geology and Mining and a representative of the Indian Bureau of Mines as members. 

DISTRICT LEVEL

     In accordance with the instructions contained in Government letter No.20008/ Industries (MMA1) Department dt.19.12.2005 District level Task forces have been constituted under the Chairmanship of District Collector.

    The officials of Department of Geology and Mining, Police, Revenue, Forest, Transport and Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board are its members.

     The Government in G.O.No.135 Industries (MMA1) Department dt.13.11.2009 instructed to reconstitute the existing District Level Task Force by including Revenue Divisional Officer, the Assistant Director of Panchayat and Town Panchayat, Commissioner of Municipalities and Executive Engineer (Public Works Department-WRO) as members. 

TALUK LEVEL

        The Government in G.O.No.135 Industries (MMA1) Department dt.13.11.2009 instructed to constitute Taluk Level  Task        Forces with the Taluk level officials and the respective Tahsildar as convener.

 

High Level Monitoring Committee for Sand

     A High Level Monitoring Committee (State Level Sand Co-ordination Committee) under the Chairmanship of Secretary to Government, Industries Department has been constituted vide G.O.140 Industries (MMC1) Department dated 11.7.2008.

     State Level and District Level

Pakhwara Meeting

    Pakhwara meetings are conducted at State and District levels  to create awareness among the village public about the existing Act and Rules for the removal of minerals which in turn will help to prevent the illegal mining and transportation of minerals.
